#10 Hike: Come out to hike on your own--a trail guide and map will help you navigate more than 3-miles of walking routes. Several exhibit kiosks provide additional information about the woodland. Open daylight hours 7-days/week. Go to http://www.demonstrationforest.org/map.htm for directions.

#9 Enjoy a Tour: FREE tours introduce you to forest ecology, our management demonstrations and ongoing research projects. Extend your visit with a picnic and leisurely walk. #8 Hunt Treasures: Hidden in our woodland are letterboxes and geo-caches. Letterbox clues for Hopkins Demonstration Forest are available at http://www.letterboxing.org as the Family Forest Letterbox Series. Geo-cache clues can be found at http://www.geocaching.com. Search for Thinning and Pruning and Low Gear Road caches.

#7 Learn by Doing: Join us on the 2nd Saturday each month for Community Forestry Day, to experience a variety of tree farm chores throughout the year. We provide tools, gloves, expert supervision and lunch for volunteers-please call ahead, 503-632-2150.

#6 Find 10 Trees: There are over 20 different native tree species growing in varied habitats at Hopkins Demonstration Forest. Download a Trees Checklist and set out with a field guide to find as many as many trees as you can.

#5 Celebrate: Cedar Grove Picnic Shelter includes accommodations for about 60 people, and is close to drinking water, restrooms, and an amphitheater with fire ring. Nearby trails, ponds and Little Buckner Creek will interest young and old alike. Call 503-632-2150 to reserve use of facilities at Hopkins Demonstration Forest.

#4 Watch Wildlife: A variety of critters use our woodland, which provides excellent and varied habitat. Birders and trackers can find several common resident and migrant species in the forest. Ask to borrow a Wildlife Field Vest.

#3 Study Stream & Pond Ecology: Learn more about water quality and how we manage our riparian forest and ponds. Borrow a Aquatic Field Vest, and equipment to help you explore the stream and ponds.

#2 Adopt-a-Grove: Invest some of your energies in planting and pruning trees, then revisit the same grove over time to measure and track forest growth. Contact Hopkins staff at 503-632-2150 to inquire about adopting a grove.
